Why You Should Be Focusing on Your Lats and 6 Recommended Exercises Targeting Them
Your latissimi dorsi, aka. lats, are the broadest muscles in your body. Located in your back they are responsible for stabilizing much of your ribs, shoulders, and can even have an effect on your hips, chest, and abs. Weak lats can result in a number of issues, including bad posture, complications in shoulder function, and more. However, since we're not doctors we're going to focus on the effect weak lats can have on your workout.
It is impossible to produce optimal gains with weak lats. They contribute to an incredible amount of weight lifting maneuvers. Not engaging your lats or having weak lats causes you to not harness the power you could otherwise. This is why not neglecting your lats and training them with the rest of your body will improve your performance across the board.
