Nuts contain magnesium. Magnesium helps in relaxing muscles, which can be helpful when recovering from a heavy workout that can cause cramps.
Dark Leafy Greens
Greens like spinach are also a great source of magnesium and as we said before this can benefit in fighting cramping, but another benefit of leafy greens is their ability to increase blood flow which aids in recovery.
Watermelon contains an amino acid called L-citrulline which aids in recovery by promoting nitrogen waste removal from the body. This can reduce muscle fatigue and soreness. Not to mention it's incredibly hydrating.
Turmeric helps reduce inflammation and has been found to also reduce muscle soreness and damage. Some inflammation is natural and even possibly helpful in post-workout recovery, but too much inflammation can have a number of negative effects.
Lentils and Eggs
Lentils and eggs are both foods rich in leucine an amino acid that has been linked to reducing muscle breakdown as well as lessening delayed onset soreness.
Legumes contain higher levels of zinc. We know that a zinc deficiency can cause poor muscle strength and endurance, but zinc is also now being linked to muscle repair post-workout.
